Pool Leak or Just Evaporation? Aliso Viejo Pool Bucket Test Calculator
Aliso Viejo pools lose water to evaporation year-round under the Southern California sun. The bucket test is the most reliable way to separate a real leak from normal evaporation before calling a technician. If the test confirms a leak, call (949) 325-3122 for professional pool leak detection.
With MNWD water budget-based pricing, a leaking pool that pushes monthly water use over your outdoor budget can trigger higher-tier pricing, making a repair worth pursuing even at the district's low base rates.
How to Run the Bucket Test
- 1Fill a 5-gallon bucket with pool water to about 1 inch from the top.
- 2Place the bucket on the first or second pool step so the water level inside matches the pool water level outside.
- 3Mark the inside bucket level and the outside pool level with tape or a marker.
- 4Run the pool pump on its normal schedule. Disable auto-fill. Wait 24 hours.
- 5Measure how much the level dropped inside the bucket and outside. Enter both below.
Turning off auto-fill is critical. If auto-fill is active, it compensates for any leak and the test will show no difference even if the pool is leaking significantly.
